DAVAO CITY – The red tide monitoring systems of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource (BFAR) XI are now redefined not only in the areas of Balite Bay, Mati City, Davao Oriental and coastal waters in Santa Maria in Davao Occidental which are affected by red tide but also in the neighboring provinces.
According to BFAR XI Fisheries Production and Support Services Division (FPSSD) Chief Raul C. Millana, they are now in contact with the concerned Local Government Units (LGUs) in conducting information and awareness campaign to inform the status of red tide and also to provide updates regarding the results of their weekly collection of samples.
BFAR XI Chemistry Laboratory Regional Head Maria Loida Avorque immediately pointed out that the red tide incidence is unavoidable because it is a natural phenomenon especially that most of the oceans nowadays are experiencing severe pollution.
