DAVAO CITY – The military calls on candidates in May 2019 midterm elections to avoid the permit to win, permit to campaign done by the New People’s Army (NPA).

Lt. Col. Ezra Balagtey, spokesperson of the Eastern Mindanao Command, has yet to monitor the NPAs asking for money for candidates in exchange for campaigning in remote areas with rebel presence.

The official also admitted that the same measures were not allowed and the candidates could face the complaints that would give money to NPAs.

Meanwhile, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said their security is being prepared especially in areas within the election watchlist areas (EWAS).

According to DCPO spokesperson Maria Theresita Gaspan, their deployment of police in the areas covered by the EWAS is to secure the election and prevent the conflict.

The authorities will also restrict their monitoring to avoid sabotage by law less armed groups.
