Bombo Radyo started in Davao in the early 80s at a time when the City was notoriously known as haven of NPA "sparrow hit squads" who shot and killed military and police personnel with impunity in any street,anywhere, anytime.

As "sparrow" assassinations were almost daily occurrences, Bombo Radyo has always been in the forefront of such coverages and most of the time, Bombo reporters arrived in the crime scene ahead of the responding police or military authorities.
